Yesterday Florida Realtors reported an increase in Florida consumer confidence. They stated “Consumer confidence among Floridians rose three points to 69 in December, reflecting cautious optimism in the economy, according to a recent University of Florida (UF) survey. Though the latest figure is only one point below the level set in December 2010, it marks the highest rank in the past nine months.” Great news for the local economy and for Naples Real Estate.
We are seeing some local anecdotal confirmation of the statewide trend. Driving down fifth avenue last week it was tough to find a parking space. Coming back from Key West on our boat Sunday Gordon pass and the outside channel were full of boats. Frank at the gas dock reported strong fuel sales and Citrus on 5th is seeing a brisk business. Restaurants in general are backed up. Tourist season is ramping up and it looks like local consumers are running up a tab.
We will see if all this “confidence” translates into Naples real estate activity. We will especially check out volume data. Inventory is lower than in the past few years – if we get some volume we should see prices move up as well – we will see.
