Healthy Living

Posted on Tuesday, April 19, 2011

The Naples News just reported Collier County (Naples home county) is ranked number one for healthy living in Florida.  Last year the county was ranked number one as well.  What is going on here?

Naples in general offers a healthy lifestyle (you still need the discipline to go after it) and some national class health providers.  Firstly, our latitude and weather offer plenty of sunshine to drive vitamin D acquisition, a proven health benefit (Read “Blue Zones” and the study of longevity).  Naples Community Hospital is ranked #1 in emergency cardio care in the state and #5 nationally, not to mention Dr. Light’s longevity clinic and Dr. Cederquest’s nutritional programs.  Organic food stores like Whole Foods are here and more importantly 100% organic farms and stores like Frank Oaks place Food and Thought are here as well.

Those looking for exercise will find the Naples triathlon the first week of June in some terrific weather for those of you who do not like the Boston conditions this week.  A number of long distance cycling groups like the Velos and the Naples Cyclery evening rides, year round tennis leagues and competitions, golf (good for vitamin D not as good for cardio), and personal trainers like Dave Duckworth’s place on 4th avenue south,  running clubs, open ocean swimmer meeting at the beach and many others.

We are a healthy place to live.  Just come on down and get out there and enjoy it.
