People vote with their feet and pocket books. Feet are showing up in the tourism figures up 7% in Naples and pocket books show prices ……. On the national scale DSnews.com reported 5/11 Both the expectation for home prices and the percentage of those who think the U.S. economy is on the right path reached record highs in Fannie Mae’s April 2012 National Housing Survey.
Americans continue to expect home prices to go up, with the projection averaging 1.3 percent over the next 12 months, the highest value recorded.
With an estimated 21% of our market from international buyers we do have some concerns. Europe is not doing well and some immigration laws may cause decreased tourism – but on the plus side we may be viewed as a “safe haven” as the euro weakens. Hard to tell but uncertainty is never a good thing.
Volumes did drop off over the past month. Our research shows 890 properties sold in over the last month and a whopping 1,046 properties sold in the prior month. This could be attributed to our seasonal markets as our snowbirds are gone now – but we should see a leveling off at some point.
The real question – will we see another strong summer season or will Europe and the economy slow us up? We will see.
