The Naples Botanical Garden (naplesgarden.org) adds to our Naples lifestyle by providing one of the premiere botanical garden experiences in the country. Yesterday the 2011 “Hats in the Garden” was held as a celebration of the garden and fundraiser. This event is turning into one of the premier social events of the Naples Season and one of the rare early events pre-Thanksgiving. Seen and be seen at this event next year.
Since the garden was developed only in the past few years by a group of private local residents and leaders, the design could incorporate many new ideas and practices unlike existing older gardens. For example the entire garden is organized into themes – themes unique to the area and the Caribbean. You will not find yourself walking from latin name to latin name (although the tags are there if you like them) but rather you will be treated to an experience loyal to the featured area – like the Caribbean Garden, or the Brazilian garden or local features in the Florida Garden.
Participating takes many forms and they are all up to you. You can just walk around and relax, read, attend events (how about jazz music in a wonderful garden on a Florida evening in the dead of winter), work and volunteer, learn by attending lectures and tours, take your kids and grand kids to the Children’s Garden and many more ideas. This place offers many ways to enjoy our local paradise.
And we should note the impact of the garden on Naples real estate. Windstar on Naples Bay – right across from the garden – is certainly one beneficiary. Imagine living on Naples bay with a water shuttle to a private beach on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, where homes are built around Fazio’s first golf course in Florida and a deep water marina with one of the closest Gulf access points awaits your boat. With the garden, you can literally walk across the street and enjoy the beauty of tropical gardens, read a book, listen to jazz some evenings. I don’t know about you but we just love the atmosphere of the place.
Naples. What a great place to live. So many ways to enjoy the area and live life. If you have a love of the outdoors, gardening, or just learning new things go to the garden and go often. It is one of our favorite places in this wonderful paradise called Naples.
