Yesterday was a day to enjoy some of that Naples, Florida lifestyle. My friend and I headed out to the back country just after sunrise for some fishing in this wonderful outdoor paradise. There is something about a day on the water that takes you away – a chance to just relax and perhaps step back. Step back and take time out to appreciate all of this natural beauty around us.
A nice run down the back of Keewaydin and up into Rookery Bay we sent. Where exactly we went is something of a secret because fishing spots are guarded like precious metal down here but suffice it to say we drifted some promising looking water as “read” by my trusty fishing partner and friend and a few fish were good enough to cooperate.
At the slack tide we picked up and headed down to Marco Island. One of the interesting geographical features here is even a small flat bottomed boat, like my eighteen foot action craft, can go zooming down the back waterway even though it may be rough on the outside big water. We tried out a new spot, boated a rat red, met some fellow anglers from Toronto with their guide and drifted the shore. The Toronto anglers reminded us how fortunate we are to live here year round, a place where people travel 1500 miles just to visit. Truly blessed.
After a quick lunch on the water we headed to another spot, way in the back in skinny water on the incoming tide. Although no fish were caught, probably due to the mild tide cycle, we did see some great back country sites – including a manatee swimming right behind our boat to say hello and move alone on his/her way. Now that was something to see.
All in all a good day on the water and one I look forward to again soon. Come on down here for a visit, or ask us about local guides and boat rentals and you too can come out in eighty degree weather at the end of March, roll up your sleeves, and take in some of this Florida sunshine and outdoor beauty.
Have a great weekend.
