Riding your bike with the wind in your hair along the Gulf of Mexico or maybe out in the countryside in 70 degree temperatures in the dead of winter – are you kidding me, what a blast and part of our wonderful Naples, Florida lifestyle.
Cycling, that growing US sport so popular in Europe and now growing in the United States. Although serious in cycling in Naples in season is tough (the weather is great the traffic is tough) you could find many of us yesterday at 5th Avenue Coffee hanging out in our latest cycle wear sporting our favorite machines.
Cycling is taking off here because of our climate and some of the wonderful scenic rides you can take in the country side. The MS Citrus Ride in the May features a cross-country ride though the heart of Florida where you view citrus groves and one hundred year old+ live oaks growing out in the fields. There is also the Horrible Hundred which just wrapped up two weeks ago with some great climbs (yes we have hills in Florida) including Sugar Loaf about 60 miles in.
Many of the rides help others. The Everyone rides event is a good example where we ride to help out the Boys and Girls club of Lee County to the north of us. Here is some information on the upcoming ride:

In addition to the charitable events there are many standard rides during the week around here. Tuesday and Thursday evening Naples Cyclery hosts a ride, Sunday morning is the Trek Ride and many individuals and clubs can fill in the rest of the week for you. A great sport and a lot of fun – and certainly part of the Naples lifestyle.
